28-31 May 2017, Dyce, nr Aberdeen, Scotland
LATE REGISTRATION AVAILABLE TO 21st MAY 2017
Best Practices for Agriculture, Forestry, Restoration and Industry
This important international conference will focus on the use of peatlands for agriculture, conservation, forestry and industry. It will also consider best practices for peatland after use including rewetting and revegetating to reinstate peat formation and economic and leisure possibilities. This will be a major opportunity for landowners, managers, academics, regulators and policy makers to be briefed on and discuss the most important issues and problems facing ‘Responsible Management of Peatlands’.
Offers of oral and poster presentations are now closed and the programme is being finalised. The event commences on Sunday 28th May with a Brainstorming Session on current and emerging issues affecting peatlands and peat globally. The Convention will be opened formally on Monday 29th May by representatives of Aberdeen City Council and Scottish Government. This will be followed by five Keynote presentations, one for each of the major themes as a prelude to four parallel Workshops in which short presentations will be given on a wide range of issues. Time is allocated for discussion and audience participation and poster viewing. Tuesday 30th May is devoted to four excursions to places of peatland and peatland restoration interest, scenic landscapes, historical buildings and local malt whisky industry. On Wednesday 31 May, we shall host a special session on Restoration of Tropical Peatland followed by conclusions of the workshops and planning sessions for future actions. We look forward to hearing about the many exciting activities and projects currently taking place across the world.
We invite offers of sponsorship and financial support for these exciting events, including brain-storming session, symposium, workshops, excursions and Gala Dinner the last of which will be held in Haddo House, courtesy of the National Trust for Scotland where you will experience traditional Scottish entertainment and hospitality.
