The Celebrating our Woodland Heritage project seeks to identify, record and celebrate the ‘hidden heritage’ of the South Pennines woodlands. It will focus on the heritage treasures within South Pennine woodlands and seek to use traditional and innovative investigation methods, including desk-top research and survey work, and also to bring this story to new audiences using woodland as an exciting platform to engage children and young people in understanding the environment and heritage of their local area through Forest Schools. The post of Woodland Heritage Officer will co-ordinate fieldwork by volunteers and oversee a landscape-scale analysis across the South Pennines working with the University of Bradford. The Officer will work with woodland owners, in particular, Yorkshire Water who are partly funding this post. This project champion will ensure that delivery is of the quality and scope required to assist conservation as well as acting as a ‘broker’ between professionals, enthusiasts and the public.
