Raptors, Upland & Peatlands conference 2016

25/11/2015

Raptors, Uplands & Peatlands conference

9-10 September 2016
With Uplands, Peatlands & Raptors, to be held in Sheffield in early September, we will address the hugely controversial issues of why Britain has lost its upland hen harriers, and much more besides. This is a major national conference with relevance to wider international issues as well. This landmark event will bring together key academics and practitioners to examine the ecological and conservation issues of raptors on uplands generally, and peatlands specifically, from bogs to heather moors. This is the first of two major events, the second being a 3-day national conference in 2017, on issues for the conservation of birds of uplands & peatlands.

Sphagnum field guide ...

25/11/2015

We are pleased to announce the first of a series of comprehensive field training and identification guides. This first guide, in three parts, describes Sphagnum mosses. It is broken into three parts, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. Part 1 (Basic) introduces Sphagnum and describes key characteristics, habitat and identification features along with 7 of the more common, easily-identifiable examples.

Part 2 introduces a further 5 species, which are perhaps a little less common. It also updates the firt batch with further, more detailed information and brings in variations.

Part 3 (currently in prep), will take identification a stage further, by introducing a further selection of species, more details on those covered, plus information and diagnostics at the microscopic level.

These guides are fully illustrated with slide shows illustrating all the key features and habitats.

We intend, in the near future, to produce these in hard copy too.
