What do urban rivers mean in the 21st century?
Thursday 9th June, 09.00-14.00
The Arts Tower Lower Ground Floor, University of Sheffield
Rivers play an important part in people's everyday lives, underpinned by their cultural practices. People perceive, represent and use rivers in different ways which may or may not correspond with the 'story' of the river as told as part of a city’s identity.
Join us to examine rivers and their cultural meanings. We will call on findings from the Reflecting on the River research network which has been exploring the Sabarmati River in Ahmedabad, one of India’s rapidly urbanising cities. We will reflect on future research directions around rapid urbanization and cultural heritage to expand the international Reflecting on the River research network.
