The conference included presentations in the morning and early afternoon followed by guided walks around the central part of Sheffield looking at evidence of landscape change and industrial impacts. There were two walks, one looking at the eighteenth century industrial area and city centre and another along the banks of the River Don that not only showed the nineteenth century developments but also evidence of the medieval town. The topics reflected some of the breadth and variety in both the landscapes and the industrial legacies that can be seen across South Yorkshire and around Sheffield in particular. The volume includes chapters by several of the speakers including Professor David Hey who sadly passed away a few months after the conference took place. This book is dedicated to his memory. |
